If you like trekking in the mountains you should definitely visit the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania. Amazing landscapes, breathtaking views and tiny traditional villages are part of the Usambara experience. The best way to explore the region is to hire a guide, because the signs on the ways are non existing. When you are going to an agency you will have the choice between different tours. I did two of them which I highly recommend you:
Trek to the Irente Viewpoint (7 to 8 hours)
From Lushoto you hike through the beautiful landscapes that surround the village. You cross the village of Mazinde and the Magamba Rainforest. After the lunch at the Irente Biodiversity Farm you walk to the Irente Viewpoint where you have an amazing view over the whole region.
Trek to the Mkuzu Waterfall (5 to 6 hours)
From Lushoto you start walking a steep way to the Migambo Village. Form there you walk by the summer residence of the President and walk through the colorful forest to the local waterfall.
I made the treks with a really nice guy called Elvis, who speaks really good English. He is working for the Usamabra Mountais Tour Operator which I highly recommend to you. Hiking in the Usambara Mountains is an incredible adventure that you can’t miss.
